Tweet Tweet - FINALLY Twitter Is Testing More Characters

Twitter’s iconic 140-character limit for tweets may be on the way out. Donald Trump is going to enjoy this one.

We could not be more excited about Twitter’s announcement last week. Yes, you guessed it, Twitter has FINALLY rolled out a test round, extending the character limited to 280 characters. Although it is still only to a small group of Twitter users, we definitely think this is a step in the right direction for Twitter.

If you are anything like us, we often find ourselves running out of 140 characters with almost every Tweet. This gets us using some very creative and not always best language practices to squeeze in what we have to say. We also often find it very difficult to attach any emotion to tweets, which we think is so beneficial to any brand trying to engage with their audiences.

Twitter’s reasoning behind the transparency to announce the character increase is more than just the emotional attachment possibilities. While most Twitter users are able to get tweets out in 140 characters, Twitter has realised that there is a large portion of the Twitter community that it is being excluded. According to Twitter “in all markets when people don’t have to cram their thoughts into 140 characters and actually have some to spare, we see more people Tweeting -which is awesome!”.

While Twitter values their unique ability to get information and thoughts across in such a small character count, they do believe that the change won’t happen without thorough testing and analysis of data before officially launching to the whole of the Twitter community. Twitter believes that although the collection of data will yield positive results, they want to be sure that it will work for the whole Twitter community first.

We are waiting with baited breathe for the official launch and can’t wait to get our 280 character Tweets on!
